Debut of the Red Dress

I'm still not successful in the "delay" photo function of my camera. It doesn't help that I'm trying to take a picture just as I dash out the door. Obviously I wore this last night to the last of the Christmas dances. I had a mixed good time. I'm sad today because I hurt someone's feelings...not quite intentionally...what do you do when a guy shows up who wants to dominate the conversation, dance all the dances (including the last dance)..and he can't dance well...and you want to dance with other people...well, I'm simply not able to be graceful in situations like that and so I ended up being rude. And I regret it. And my punishment is this picture. Boy does it show how much weight I have to lose. Off to the swimming pool!!!

Such a pretty dress on such a pretty gal!

As for feeling bad about hurting the gentleman's feelings, some people just don't understnad subtlety. Those are the cases where you usually have to serve up a swift boot to the ego. It's unfortunate, but usually unavoidable. Look on the bright side, he may have learned something from the experience (although with those types, it's highly unlikely)!

Gorgeous red dress - beautiful color. I know that feeling of regret and I just hope you can let go as soon as possible. Like Shannon said, some people don't pick up on the message unless you are blunt.
You are a kind person, so remember that!

Is this the same Vogue 8665 dress you posted about on 12/15? I found your blog while searching for sewers who'd used that pattern and posted about it online. After seeing your version, I am even more excited about trying out this pattern. You look lovely! Did you alter the sleeves at all? I actually like the sleeves on your finished dress better than the drawings on the envelope.

It's clear from your blog that you're a much more experienced sewer than I am (I've only been at it a few months), but I would love to learn more about your experience with this pattern just the same. :)

Oh, and regarding your experience with the Christmas dance who wouldn't take a hint, please don't feel too badly about it. Every social dance community has a few of those fellows who just don't pick up on social cues and only understand blunt communications without ambiguity. Blunt/abrasive doesn't always equal rude, anyway, and if you hadn't spoken up you might have been stuck dancing with him all night. You had to do what you had to do!
