Wah, wah...the bride's mother is wearing a pantsuit. What to do? I think it's going to be full press court for the church, bride, and bridesmaids. My son will not be wearing a tuxedo, though...any advice appreciated!
I would wear whatever you are comfortable wearing, assuming it meets with the approval of the bride and groom. Maybe the MOG is a tomboy like me, who is most comfortable in pants, even at formal affairs. If you prefer a dress, it is the most traditional, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Having seen many wedding photographs, if you wear a dress, whatever length, black lace or navy lace does not photograph well and the photos of MOB/G's I've seen in those dark colors like they belong at a funeral vs a wedding. Suggest you wear a flattering color(s) that blend/works with the wedding party colors, that will not clash in the photos. I remember seeing one of the family members of a wedding party in an outfit with wide stripes who looked like she belonged in a circus, instead of a beach wedding in FL.
Carole, You have style, class, and a great body, so you'll look great in whatever you chose to wear.
After you posted this and I commented here, and on the SG Forum, I explored what was being sold as MOB/G dresses/ensembles at major high end retailers. What I found was matronly, frumpy and a serious dearth of style! I like BLDN but only two Tadashi Shoji dresses, the Clarise and the Mabel, exactly the same style, different colors, spoke to me as elegant, flattering and enduring in style. Check them out because a similar lace top with the slight peplum would look great over your rose dance dress, or any dress or skirt you decide to make/wear.

Maybe she was going for a cabana look?
Thanks for all your help, guys! Guess I will trash the idea of navy or black and will wear what I prefer. Now to figure out a flattering color...
